CANTON HERALD, June 16, 1949: Thirty-four dresses made by Home Demonstration club members were on display in the assembly room of the courthouse Friday. Twenty-eight of the women were present to model their dresses for the Dress Revue, sponsored by the County Home demonstration Council. Eleven of these dresses scored high enough to draw blue ribbon awards, which is 90 to 100. Twelve were in the red ribbon class with a score of 85 to 89 and the remaining five scored above 80 for the white ribbon award. Mrs. Mary Lou Lawler of the Elberta Club and Mrs. T.G. Hardy of the Turner Club tied for the high score of 96. Other blue ribbon winners were Mrs. Jack Thompson, Mrs. W.J. Murphrey, Mrs. P.B. Ware, Mrs. Angus Lide, Mrs. Jack Francis, Mrs. Eugene Massey, Mrs. W.O. Massey, Mrs. Jack Johnson and Mrs. Alice Stanger.
Marriage rites for Miss Laura Faye Herring and Jack Chasteen were conducted during a double ring ceremony Friday evening, June 10, at 8 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Crowell of Irving. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Herring of Grand Prairie, former residents of Canton, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Chasteen of Fort Worth. After a short wedding trip, the couple will make their home in Dallas.
Joe Bob Hilliard, formerly of Canton, left Tuesday for the University of Colorado, where he will attend ten weeks of summer school. He will return in August to enter Southwestern Medical College in Dallas September 1.
Walnut Grove: Those attending the reunion at Myrtle Springs Park Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Autry and family, Mrs. Delia Youngblood, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Tate and son, Roland, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Emery, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Teague and daughter, Wanda, Mrs. Susie Teel, Mr. and Mrs. Ryron Black, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Hughey, Mr. and Mrs. A.T. Teel, Benjie and Loyd Edward Teel, Mr. and Mrs. B.H. Norman and Mr. and Mrs. Manley Autry.
Whitton: Will Simmons was rushed to Baylor hospital in Dallas Thursday night for an emergency operation for the removal of his appendix.
Rock Hill: Mr. and Mrs. Rupell Walker of Dallas are the proud parents of a baby boy, born
June 8. He has been named Dearrol Wayne. Mr. Walker is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Walker of this community.
Personals: Mr. and Mrs. Leon Davis of Mount Pleasant, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Isbon and Miss Thelma Davis of Dallas visited Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Davis Sunday. Mrs. Clara Jackson, Leon, Ben, Don, Mrs. Lenny Hurley, Haskell Hurley and Johnny Mac Martin are visiting Mrs. E. Vaughn of Lueders.
John Cooper of Columbia University visited Mr. and Mrs. Harold Turner and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Taylor last Wednesday.
Mrs. Pauline Davison has returned home from Dallas after taking her son, Freeman, for a checkup after a heart operation.
Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Brammar, Jr. and Gary of Denton and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Pinkerton and children of Corpus Christi visited Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Couch last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Holub, Gayle and Gary of Dallas, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Doyle Hunter and Larry and Mrs. Vada Gibson spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Grover Murphrey and Claudine.
