Summer Storytime to wrap at VZC Library
The last summer reading program for the year will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24.
Mr. Blue Shoes will be the featured presenter. The drawing for the grand prize along with other end of the summer program activities. Plan to be in attendance. Bring your reading logs.
Canton Lions Club’s vision screening was deemed a success. Twenty-seven children were screened for vision problems, and three were found to need further help from an ophthalmologist.
The Lions who attended and administered the tests said they were grateful that most of the children tested in the normal range, but pleased that those who needed other care were detected. “It is worth all the time and effort that goes into these screenings if one child’s vision is improved,” said Jimmy Strickland, Immediate Past District Governor of Lions.
Freebie third Friday was presented by Dr. Jennifer Jones July 17. She stressed the importance of job hunting skills and resume preparation. Watch Facebook for the subject for the Aug. 21 freebie third Friday. Some will be serious; and some will be fun.
Mini Encounters Horses were Summer Reading’s guests on July 17. Over 200 children and adults met the miniature horses under the trees behind the Library.
A memorial was received from the Edgewood Historical Society for Bobby Parker. Memorials may be mailed to Friends of the Library, P.O. Box 1072, Canton, 75103, or left at the library.
As the new school year draws closer, help your child be ready by continuing to read. If you do not have a library card go get one.
