Funeral services for Haskell B. Berry, 90, of Edgewood, were held Oct. 22, 2015, at Hiett’s LyBrand Chapel in Edgewood. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Edgewood.

On Oct. 19, 2015, Haskell Benard Berry Sr. left this life behind at the young age of 90, and arrived at his new home in Heaven. He is now rejoicing with the Lord and many precious family members.

He was born April 22, 1925, to Laura Tempe and Samuel Warren Berry in Edgewood. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1942.

He enlisted in the Army in 1943. Haskell boarded a ship to New Guinea and served in combat in the Pacific Islands and Japan while serving under General MacArthur. Haskell graduated with an agriculture degree from Sam Houston University. He taught Ag at Tyler Jr. College for several years. 

He went to work as a salesman for Swift & Company early in life and then joined Stewart Equipment as a Division Manager for Ford tractors and farm implements.

After his retirement, he was a First Monday vendor for many years and enjoyed and cherished the friendships he made while selling his wares. The most fun he had every year was at the “Berry Reunion.” He loved reminiscing with all his cousins.

He told many stories, but his favorite true story was the one about how many kids, grandkids and great-grandkids he had. They were his pride and joy and they all “looked just like him.”

Mr. Berry is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Aubrey, George and Buel (his best friend while here on Earth); and his son, Haskell Berry Jr.

He is survived by five children, Carolyn Goodson Stovall and husband, Larry, Jan Jordan and husband, Olen, David Berry and wife, Julie, Tempie Gray and Tony Berry; 16 grandchildren, Doug Goodson and wife Pam, Keith Goodson and wife Sarah, Kelly Goodson and wife,Jennifer, Justin Jordan and wife Renee, Michael Berry and wife Jessica, Jeremy Berry and wife Melissa, Rebecca and Thomas Sharpe, Nicholas and Hayley Berry, Rachel Berry, Ryan Berry, Jonathan Berry, Emma Berry, Katy Berry, Tyler Gray, Tara and Matt Tarver and Tanner Gray; 22 great- grandchildren; two nephews, Ricky Berry and wife Becky, Randy Berry and wife Denette, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Many thanks to all his friends at the Crestwood Assisted Living facility in Wills Point, who made the last few years of his life such a blessing by “forcing” him to play bingo, Mexican dominos and participating in singing every Wednesday! He looked forward to every day while there.
