Services for Dovie Mae Akin, 96, of Van were held Nov. 27, 2015, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Lester Foreman officiating.  Interment was in Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton.

Mrs. Akin died Nov. 24, 2015, in Van.  She was born on June 1, 1919, in Colfax to Marion and Lorene Blakely Phillips.

She was Pentecostal by faith. She grew up and lived in the Canton and Colfax area. She lived the past 45 years in Van. She was a cook and medication aide at Van Health Care for many years. She enjoyed writing poems and songs. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willie George Akin; and 11 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her son, Albert A. and Linda L. Phillips of Athens; daughter, Elaine Waters of Norman, Okla.; daughter, Rita Akin of Norman, Okla.; daughter, Nita and Neal Robertson of Terrell; daughter, Melba and Tom Flinn of Blue Grove; daughter, Marfa and Jeff Farmer of Corsicana; son, Willie Akin, Jr. and wife, Linda of Whitehouse; 18 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
