Walking With Bob
Today is the official start of the Holiday Season. The daily routine is the same as it has been since June 12, 2006. Up at 4 a.m., bathroom essentials, protein powered milkshake, check headlines and mail, into my running gear, and off to the park. WOOO! Not so fast Buster. It is Turkey Trot day and the official start of the Holiday season. A slight change in the schedule is required. Thanksgiving will start officially at 7 a.m.
The runners, walkers, baby buggy pushers, dog walkers and the gawkers and viewers will start arriving at First Monday grounds as the sun rises in the east. Hugs, smiles and giggles are the order of the day. It is the start of the Canton Turkey Trot.
This is not your ordinary 5K Turkey Trot. No sign in, no timing, no trophies, just show up, run or walk or just watch. That is it. No, there is more to it. It is what Thanksgiving is all about.
A beautiful young lady left us too soon, but her dream stays with us. As a young kid she always wanted to help those were not as fortunate. Mallory’s Dream is the foundation in her honor. There are tee shirts at the 5K donated by friends of the foundation. They are being worn with pride. Last year there were 140 shirts, and they were all gone. This year there are 280 and they are worn with pride. There will be clean water somewhere in this world. There will be kids getting an education, there will be happiness and Thanksgiving because of the Canton Turkey Trot. Thank you Mallory.
