Canton girls receive Top honors church discipleship event
Karo Buck and Patricia Hernandez, both of Canton, were honored at this year’s Girl Missionary Auxiliary camp.
Girls from across Texas descended on Daniel Springs Baptist Encampment on March 18 and 19 for a weekend of fun, fellowship, praise, worship and hearing God’s word. The Girls Missionary Auxiliary (GMA) of Texas meets once a year for this event and to recognize girls for accomplishments made in the program during the past year.
GMA is a discipleship program for girls in fourth through twelfth grade. Girls complete lessons, mission projects, memorize scripture, learn about missionaries and how to increase their own faith and trust in God. GMA is a part of the Baptist Missionary Association of America.
Two Canton girls received top honors at the meeting this year. Karo Buck, daughter of Ray Buck and Stacey Buck, was named Jr. Miss GMA of Texas. Karo is a sixth grade student at Canton Junior High and attends Old Bethel Baptist Church. Patricia Hernandez was named Miss GMA of Texas. She is the daughter of Catalino and Patsy Hernandez and attends Oak Grove Baptist Church. Patricia is an eleventh grader at Canton High School.
Cheryl Hughes, Van Zandt District GMA promoter, is very proud of these girls and excited for what lies ahead of them. Mrs. Hughes has been working with this program approximately twenty years and does not recall both positions ever being filled with Van Zandt girls at the same time. Both girls will represent Texas at the National level at GMA Camp June 14 through 17.
