Donald Joe Patterson, 64, passed away at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital inTyler, in the Heart Hospital, on June 22, 2016, with his loving wife Jackie Patterson at his bedside.

In lieu of a funeral, a celebration of Mr. Patterson’s life was held June 25, 2016.

Cremation will take place at Hillard Funeral Home, 386 N Maple St, Van.

Mr. Patterson was born Dec. 15, 1951, in Wichita Falls, to Wayne and Mary Patterson. The family relocated to Dallas in the 1960s. He was active in the ROTC at Bryan Adams High School. As a US Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany.

He settled in Farmers Branch in 1973, where he was involved in the automotive industry for many years; working as a machinist, master mechanic, parts manager and eventually operated his own Mac Tool Truck. He also tried his hand at real estate in North Dallas.
He married the love of his life, Jackie (Curie) Jones, on Oct. 15, 2004, in Farmers Branch.

In 2012, he and Jackie achieved their dream of owning a little piece of heaven, when they relocated to property just outside of Canton. They became active in Canton Trades Days and Big Daddy's Flea Market in Tool, selling Real Time Pain Relief Products, as owner vendors. He retired from the Canton GMC dealership in 2014.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to cook and BBQ and shared his passion and talent by cooking for friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary L Whitlock and his father, Wayne F Patterson.

He leaves behind his wife, Jackie Patterson; sister, Gail Patterson, aunt, Jean Reeves, stepdaughter, Jennifer Smithee and four grandchildren, Onyx, Ashton, Gwenyth and Rosabella Smithee.

The family would like to recognize the excellent care he received from Heart to Heart Hospice of Tyler, especially Stephanie Taylor, RN, Brandy and Lorraine. Because of their excellent care, he was able to have an extra year with his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Casa of Van Zandt County.
