Volunteers help run the library

We at the library want to spotlight the people who volunteer their time to help the librarians keep the library running smoothly.

This week, Lacy Elliott is featured.

Lacy has been a volunteer for nine months. After 25 years of homeschooling her children, she decided to “give back to the library after 15 years of my children terrorizing the library!”

Lacy, besides teaching, has some college experience and works in the children’s department at church. As a farm owner, she sells cattle and hay; also she trains horses and is a riding instructor.

Lacy, who describes volunteering as a blessing, works eight hours a week. Her duties include wrapping, labeling, shelving and repairing books; also, she assists patrons and issues new library cards. Her favorite part of the work is helping patrons and staff. She describes the staff as “very patient and helpful in teaching her the needed skills.”

The least favorite aspect is not being able to solve a problem for a patron, she said.

Thank you, Lacy, on behalf of all those you help!

Anyone who would like to see what happened when the Stuffed Animals had a sleepover at the library can check out the video on the library's Facebook page.

During the Friends of the Library executive meeting, some dates were set for upcoming events. The first meeting of the year will be 10 a.m. Sept. 12 in the Buchanan Room. If you are interested in continuing the library's work using your unique experiences, volunteering time and energy, and working with people with similar interests, come and join!

To recognize all the time and efforts in the remodel of the library last spring, there will be an Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept.15.

In November, tentatively scheduled on the 4th and 5th, a Book Fair will take place. This is your chance to pick up some very good bargains on gently used books.

Come by the Van Zandt County Library and check out all the services available. Meet the friendly and knowledgeable librarians and volunteers who are glad to help. In addition, the website www.vanzandtlibrary.org is very informative.
