Voters approve alcohol propositions

A record number of voters flocked to the polls during the November 2016 General Election with over 20,000 ballots cast.  Early voting saw 12,356 voters cast their ballot in the race.

City of Canton voters were asked to cast their vote on two major alcohol propositions and decide who would fill the shoes of the late Constable Pct. 2 C. B. Wiley.

Alcohol Propositions

Proposition 1 would allow the sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only. Proposition 2 was for the sale of mixed beverages in restaurants by food and beverage certificate holders only in the city of Canton.

Both propositions passed by convincing margins.

Proposition 1 passed with a total of 740 votes, a 58.82 percent margin. There were 635 votes against, a 46.18 margin.

Proposition 2 passed with a total of 812 votes, a 59.57 margin. There were 551 votes against, or 40.93 percent.
