James named to TGCA All-State Team
The Canton High School cross country team enjoyed another standout campaign during their 2016 season, putting together strong performances all the way from their first meet at the Union Grove Invitational Aug. 27 to the 4A State Cross Country Meet in Round Rock Nov. 12.
With the conclusion of the cross country season for all teams throughout the state, the Texas Girls Coaches Association released its annual list of All-State and Academic All-State performers for all classifications over the past week.
On Nov. 16, the TGCA issued a press release announcing that Canton senior standout Karen James had been one of 15 athletes from around the state to earn a spot on the 2016-'17 TGCA 4A All-State Cross Country Team.
James has been among the best runners in the state throughout the season, finishing no worse than fourth overall at any meet prior to State. James finished second at the Union Grove Invitational Aug. 27 with a time of 12:59; first at the James Smith Invitational in Midlothian Sept. 8 in a time of 13:43; fourth at the Canton Cross Country Invitational Sept. 17 in a time of 12:49.72; third at the Pine Tree Invitational in Kilgore Sept. 24 in a time of 14:37; fourth at the Ken Gaston Invitational Sept. 29 in a time of 12:04; fourth at the Lindale Invitational Oct. 6 with a time of 12:47; second at the District 13-4A Meet in Canton Oct. 17 in a time of 12:52; and second at the Regional Meet in Grand Prairie Oct. 29 in a time of 11:39.
