Council discusses ‘Trade’ statue Autumn Fest set for Oct. 14

The Canton City Council came back to a topic of heated discussion around the community, involving moving “The Trade” statue during the council meeting Sept. 19. The council approved moving “The Trade” statue to city-owned grounds at First Monday during the Aug. 29 council meeting.

During the Sept. 19 meeting, the council considered all locations and base designs of the statue. City Manager Lonny Cluck and Assistant City Manager Andy Wolfe presented the council with three different base designs for the statue. After discussion about types of bases, Councilwoman Cindy Malouf said she would like the council to “go back down during market,” to view all the proposed locations before deciding on the base and final location of the statue.

“I am all for the city’s property being on city property. I want it to be in the right place and I want it to be in a place that it is not going to get visually lost. I would also like a little green space around the statue,” said Malouf.
