The Gift of Love

When the world started turning

God looked on the earth

From His throne in Heaven

A great plan had its birth

He created everything perfect

Living creatures were in his plan

When He had everything ready

He made a creature called man

This man creature was his favorite

So he raised him above

But something was missing

Was one experience called love

In Noah’s time love was missing

People ignored God’s call

The rains fell from Heaven

And took life from them all

God saw what was missing

A sweet creature called love

The greatest item in creation

Coming straight from above

This love was brought by Jesus

Was shed n Calvary’s tree

Through faith in Him

Our sins are gone, our souls for Heaven free.

What causes vegetable disease?

Vegetable diseases are caused primarily by fungi, bacteria, viruses and nematodes.

Each of these organisms is responsible for causing certain vegetable diseases. They go about causing the diseased condition in different ways, but the end result is the loss of high-quality food. I will cover all four of these issues.

Fungi - Fungi come in many different forms; most are beneficial and are necessary for man to exist on earth. There are, however, a few fungi which are capable of causing severe losses of food.

Fungi are thread-like plants that lack chlorophyll (that's the compound that causes leaves to have their green color.)

Fungi reproduce by extremely small parts known as "spores." These would correspond to seed in plants like corn.

Late blight of potato (the fungus that caused the potato famine in Ireland) has spores that measure 30 microns in length.  It would take 8,500 spores placed side-by-side to measure one inch.

Finding perfect date takes some explanation

No, we are not talking about that special person in your life but rather about the date on your food packages.  According to research most people have a difficult time understanding the date stamps that are found on food products.

Most people are under the impression that the date stamps serve as a safety date but this is not true.  The safety date serves as a guide to allow you to serve food at its best quality.

Walking With Bob

Get up walking

The health and wellness experts say that about 80 percent of what we do is a habit. A perfect example is how I wake up every morning. It is about 4 a.m. and that is a habit. I had always slept on my belly until five months ago when I broke some ribs and I had no choice, so I had to sleep on my back. My lazy brain fought it hard, but I gave in because I had to get sleep. Now sleeping on my back is a new habit and I now I breathe and sleep better and that is a good new habit. So there, lazy brain.

Pesky plant plagues lawns

Lawn burrweed

For the last two months my number one horticulture related call has been this pesky weed that has infected a vast majority of yards in our area.

Lawn burrweed, carpet burrweed or spur weed  (Soliva spp.), a cool season annual introduced from South America, has become a nuisance on golf courses, athletic fields, parks and lawns throughout much of Texas and the Southwest.

The weed becomes a real nuisance when the seed matures in the spring because the sharply pointed spines on the seed can easily pierce the skin. Burweed becomes a deterrent to the use of athletic fields, parks and playgrounds in the spring when the seed mature. On golf courses, burweed invades even the most closely mowed putting greens as well as fairways, tees and roughs.

Tis the season for aquatic weeds to infest Texas ponds

This spring, like most, we have been inundated with aquatic weeds in East Texas.

Texas waters grow hundreds of species of aquatic plants.  Many of these are desirable; however, undesirable aquatic plants can be a major problem for pond and lake owners because they are detrimental to pond management and fishing.  Correct identification is essential if control measures are to be successful.

Plants are grouped according to their growth habits.  They are:

1. Algae – Includes three types: microscopic plants (plankton) responsible for the green color in fertile water; filamentous algae; and branched algae that resemble flowering plants but do not flower or produce seeds.

2. Submersed plants other than algae – Includes plants growing mainly beneath the water surface.  Occasionally some leaves or other plant parts may float but normally only the seed heads extend above the surface.

Conversation tips, suggestions for future planning with your parents

The best way to predict the future is to create it. ~
Abraham Lincoln

As your parents age, planning for the future is not only in their best interests, but also those of the entire family.

To help ensure their continued care and well-being it’s best to start early. Doing so helps things go much more smoothly as planning then becomes a normal routine of life as they get older.

You want to establish an ongoing, honest conversation about health, housing and finances so you can lay the groundwork to meet your parents’ needs and wishes when the time comes. Here are a few topic and sample questions to help guide the conversation with your parents:

1.  Legal Issues and Estate Planning: Is their Will up to date? Help them plan out how their assets will provide for their own care and future.

The Holy Spirit

Almighty God is the Holy Spirit

No mankind has seen His face

He came to earth for a little while

And He created the human race.

His power is without equal

The blessing part is love

Every blessing humans receive

Comes direct from Him above.

He made Satan crawl on his belly

And robbed him of his power

All he can ever do is tempt

From then to this very hour.

He made Jesus in the womb of a virgin

And when the sweet work was done

Called Him Savior of our souls

And He is my only begotten son.

The Holy Spirit brought Him life

His power is equal never doubt

He shed His blood on Calvary Cross

To save us from sin, Let us Shout!

Praise the Lord!
