God Forbid

God made man and man alone

Then he made man a mate

Not man and man together

As things have turned of late.

If man takes man and woman takes woman

And nothing takes its place

The wrath of God comes quickly

It will be the end of the human race.

The word of God speaks clearly

We should obey it to God’s praise

They that wait upon the Lord

Will surely see length of days.

Jesus said from the beginning of creation

God made them female and male

Anyone seeking to change this

His efforts to please God will fail.

Grandparent scam popular during Spring Break

Every spring, students anticipate the arrival of spring break – a chance to trade their studies for some fun in the sun. Unfortunately, it’s also the time when unscrupulous individuals see this as a chance to purport what is known as the Grandparent Scam. Better Business Bureau warns seniors to be wary of these “emergency” scams designed to fool them into thinking that their grandchild is hurt, arrested or stranded, and in need of money.

SMALL TOWNS GET IT RIGHT

Being from Washington DC, when we moved onto 26 acres outside of Kemp in 2002, you can be sure it was a shock. 14 years down the road, so to speak, I'm happy to say I never want to go back to city living!

While large urban centers can rightfully make a claim that they have the edge on small towns when it comes to ethnic and cultural diversity (lots more minorities, art galleries, museums, zoos, libraries, opera, colleges, dining out options, a huge array of special interest groups...), it's small towns that bring it home when it comes to community and relationships!

Be ‘roadwise:’ Safety tips for driving at night

According to research from the National Safety Council, driving at night is more dangerous than any other time of day, with traffic deaths three-times greater at night compared to daytime hours. The reason for this is that driver vision — the most important sense necessary for driving — is compromised at night,  including depth perception, color recognition, and peripheral vision. Additionally, the glare from an oncoming vehicle with their high beams on can temporally blind a driver.

Noah’s Call

Noah and his family

Grew up in a land of sins

He served the Lord in the worst of time

He was chosen above all men.

Noah found grace in the eye of the Lord

Grace is the protector of life

God said Noah I have a job for you

Also your son and your wife.

I repent for making man

Satan has control of his heart

I will send a flood and drown them all

And then give flesh a new start.

There was a time when man kind

Turned their back on Father God

He repented for creating them

We may think this is odd.

The same kind of water

That drowned them then

Applied in the name of Jesus

Help save them from all sin.

Walking With Bob

Rehab a little dip in the roller coaster

Last week I had a big fall while walking briskly. I have no idea how I got up, took a selfie, and drove home. I do remember Ann on the phone with the 911 operator as the firemen came in the back door. That is the start of three days of miracles, answered prayers, and fantastic care in the hands of the Number One Trauma Unit in Texas.

I was in l La La land from the time the firemen put me in the hands of the EMT, arriving in the emergency room, and then to the care of the trauma intensive care unit. I do remember telling the emergency room doctor I felt Ok and I was training to defend my title as winner of my division in the Brookshire’s Fresh 5, so check me out so I can go home.

Seeking courage

What is Courage? This is a question that I have tried to answer my whole life. It seems like a simple concept, but the more I thought about it the more complicated it seemed. Not so much the idea of courage itself, but rather the idea of having courage. Fear has been a huge barrier for as long as I can remember. Throughout my life I began to notice that not many people struggled with fear to the extent I did. Therefore, it made me question how they had courage and why I did not. It seemed impossible to me and I just did not understand it. Later in life I realized that my perspective on fear and courage was wrong. I came to realize that courage and fear was a choice. Not so much having fear, but what I chose to do with that fear: let it control me, or control it. That is where courage comes from. Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather control of fear. All these people that I thought didn’t have fear, really did. They were not just born courageous, they chose to be.

The countdown begins

The day is almost here and the countdown has officially begun.

The Van Zandt County Library will be running on a limited schedule for March.

After 23 years, new flooring will be installed in the main library, and essential services will be relocated to the Buchanan Room.

Computers, copy machine, newspapers and part of the collection of books will be available while all shelving, books and old floor covering will be removed and replaced.  If you feel you can help this month, see the staff for assignments.  The staff will do their best to help you during this time, but their job is more difficult, also.  Be patient.

A March Storytime schedule is available, so check before you plan on coming.

The Friends of the Library will not meet on its regular day.
