Spring time to redo, renew, recycle, restore
It’s spring! And that means it’s time for spring cleaning. Once again the city of Canton will offer heavy
trash pick up the week of April 11-15. All you have to do is to get your junk to the curb by the evening of April 10! This allows the recyclers and pickers time to take what can be kept it out of the landfill which is always good. Your junk may not be picked up by the sanitation company on your regular trash day, but it will be gotten sometime during the week. Remember, this is the ONLY week city ordinance allows you to have your trash out for more than 24 hours. If you need help in hauling it to the curb, please call city hall at 903-567-2826.
There is more news as far as cleaning-up. Our code inspectors have had a year to issue warnings when it comes to code violations such as tall grass, junk, nuisances, and unsecured dangerous areas. They have generously given extra time when clean-up progress has been shown but not completed, and will continue to do so on a case by case basis. But folks, we are at a point when no progress or continued violations occur, there will be citations issued. This means there will be fines. Some people still do not understand that they just can’t strew and stow their stuff in their front yards when you live in the city. Even though your front yard is your private property, it is also the most visible part of a neighborhood, and people do not want to live next door or across the street to clutter no matter how valuable the stuff is. The most important thing is that clutter, standing water and high grass in yards offer shelter for rats and mice and breeding areas for mosquitos. No one wants viruses or diseases carried by vermin or mosquito-borne diseases to have an easy time of getting started in their neighborhood!
