New look, new books found at the VZC Library

The Van Zandt County Library is almost put back together.   The basic shelving and books have been returned to the proper place, and staff is getting braced for the summer reading program.  Trinity Valley Electric Company will start the series with thunder and lightning in an “electrical” program at 10 a.m. June 10.

The staff will need to gear up for preparing library cards for many of the children that attend.   The children’s collection is being updated after the renovation, and new items are being added.  Plan to be at all sessions.   A schedule is on the table in the library foyer.

Studies have shown that children who read during summer vacation do better in their new grade at school in the fall.  The regular attention to reading a book seems to keep the mind active and ready to attend to business when school starts.  Limit phone and computer time and offer exciting stories to keep readers “reading”.

A good book is a good helper for children (and parents) on long trips.

Do you notice that retail stores move their stock regularly?   Their rationale is “if what you are looking for is not where it belongs, you might see something new to buy”.   Some of your favorites at the Library may be re-located, so take advantage of the move to find something new.

New officers will take over at Friends of the Library after installation at the May 9 meeting.  The annual meeting of Friends Corporation will also be at that meeting.

In order to maintain the 501[c]3 status, there are forms to send to IRS, and audits to be made. Your substantial gift to the Library through the Friends will be acknowledged with a receipt for your tax return if you request it.

Enjoy the new look and the old appreciation for all the efforts and improvements that have been made in the years that there has been a Van Zandt County Public Library.
