The Canton Eagles will hit the field one more time before the start of their 2016 season, traveling to Kaufman tonight (Aug. 18) to take on the Lions. The Eagles will open the season at home the following week, hosting the Brownsboro Bears.
The bright spotlight of the Friday night lights continues to draw ever closer this week, with Canton scheduled to take on Kaufman in their final scrimmage of the 2016 preseason tonight.
The Lions, fresh off an 11-2 season that saw them make it all the way to the Regional Semifinals, enter the season as one of the favorites in District 8-4A this year.
Kaufman returns to the field this season with five offensive and seven defensive starters back in the fold.
Key players to keep an eye on will be quarterback/wide receiver Jefferson Fritz, as well as receivers Kelton Kersh and Dre Prox.
All three are big play threats, with Fritz finishing with 762 receiving and 260 rushing yards in 2015. Prox was even more explosive as a pass catcher, collecting 840 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Austin Weatherly, a 6’4” 285 lb. tackle, is expected to help clear holes for Fritz and running back Devyn Morris on the offensive side of the football.
