Career comes full circle

Thirty-five years agothis summer, I was a summer intern at the Corsicana Daily Sun.
That summer, the newspaper was doing a series of articles about attractions in East Texas.
My assignment was Canton’s First Monday.
I still remember the lead paragraph to that story: Historians may never be able to prove that Billy the Kid escaped Pat Garrett’s gun
and lived out his days in Canton as Brushy Bill Roberts but Canton really doesn’t need the legend.
I’ve had other jobs in the 35 years since that summer internship but none I’ve loved as much as being the managing editor of the Canton
Herald. This marks my last issue in that capacity.
Beginning tomorrow, I’m going to be a fulltime grandma. My grandgirls – 2-year-old Lydia and 2-week-old Emilia – call me NanDee
and I am looking forward to spending as much time with them as their mommies will allow.
I would like to say thank you to Publisher Brad Blakemore for the opportunity to spend the last three years of my professional career
here in this wonderful community.
