We are all very excited about the new Schlotzsky’s opening up soon on I-20 in Canton.

Last week the CEDC board presented a check for $10,125 to owners Bob and Stacy Hurst and son Matt Hurst at their new location. The check from the CEDC is an incentive for the renovation and occupation of a vacant commercial building.

This incentive was originally applied for and approved by the board on Sept. 22, 2015. It was a first in CEDC's new program to encourage the renovation and occupation of commercial properties that have been vacant for longer than a year in high profile areas. The Hurst family were the first to apply and we are very excited about it. Our desire is to partner with existing and new businesses to enhance underutilized areas and hopefully spur revitalization in the Canton area.

This particular incentive is in the form of a 5-year forgivable loan with an interest rate of 3% per annum. The loan is paid as a reimbursement for expenses on the property and is to be forgiven upon fulfillment of the developer's obligation to:  Invest a minimum of $200,000 in the property, open and operate a Schlotzsky’s restaurant by Feb. 28, 2017 with a minimum of 15 full-time equivalent jobs, and continue to operate the restaurant and fulfill the job requirement throughout the term of the loan.
