Wet/Dry Election

Financial Impact on the City of Canton 

We Americans have many important decisions to make between now and the end of the day on Nov. 8.  One of the decisions which will affect our quality of life in Canton is the wet/dry election. Personally, I have received two separate automated robotic calls from the FOR side. Both of them spoke about the amount of sales tax that will “surely” come into our city.  These two calls informed me that for every $1 spent in Canton on beer/wine, that there will be additional money spent on other products. 

It sounds very enticing and appealing to vote FOR.  But not so fast.  By using their logic, the only reason people will travel to Walmart or Brookshire's is to buy beer/wine and then have the afterthought to purchase more items.  When in fact this can be said of almost every product sold in these stores.  Rarely do I see people purchasing just one item.  I’m sure it happens, but the next time you patronize one of these retailers, look for yourself to see how many people are purchasing just one item.  Thus, with the same claim as the FOR group, Coca-Cola and almost every other product can make the exact same statement.  For every $1 of Coca-Cola, people will spend additional money on other products.  It doesn’t just happen with one single product
