Canton Herald – November 24, 1960: Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Baugh will celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary with an open house at their home in the Highland community on Sunday, Nov. 27 from 12 to 4 p. m. Friends and relatives of the couple are invited to come by and visit during the open house. Mr. and Mrs. Baugh were married on November 19, 1910 at the home of the bride in Glen Rose by the Church of Christ minister of that town. The bride was the former Minnie Bateman. They made their home in Lubbock until they moved to the Highland community in 1923. The Baughs have 5 children all are living and will attend the open house Sunday. The couple also has 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
News of Men and Women in Service – Camp Pendleton, California – Marine private Ronnie B. Alexander, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Alexander of Route 2, Grand Saline and Pfc. Sammy L. Gray son of Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Etheridge of Route 1, Grand Saline completed four weeks of individual combat training October 23 at the Marine Corps base here. The course included the latest infantry tactics, first aid, demolitions, and field fortifications and advanced schooling on weapons. Trainees learn that all Marines are basically infantrymen, whether they serve as cooks, typist, and truck driver or with aviation units.
