Coys Carl Casey

1927-2016

Coys Carl Casey departed his earthly life on Dec. 18, 2016, in Canton. He had an enormous heart and always had time to help anyone in need.  He was, and will remain, a faithful servant of God who dedicated his life to God’s word and inspired others in their walk with the Lord.

He was born May 27, 1927, in New Caney to Jesse Reed Casey and Ruth Arrendell Casey.  His mother died when he was an infant and his grandparents raised him in the Casey Ridge area of New Caney.  He attended East River Baptist Church, where he made a profession of faith in Christ at an early age.  During his life, he served as a Southern Baptist Deacon for 68 years. He was a founding member of numerous Southern Baptist churches and a dedicated member of Baptist churches in Bayside, Rockport, Cuero, Hallsville, Shelbyville, Belton, Tyler and Canton.

At 89 years, Casey was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He retired from AMOCO/British Petroleum, one of the world’s supermajor oil and gas companies. His greatest memory of his employment was serving the Southwestern Region as a Union Representative in Employment Arbitrations.

He was a passionate man who enjoyed fishing. He had many stories of his successful trips to Port O’Connor and Copeno Bay and hunting in the Texas Hill Country and Colorado.  He loved sports and working with children, serving Christ for many years as a Royal Ambassador Leader, Baptist Camp Counselor and National Little League Association Coach. He was a coach and leader who sought to minister to athletes by teaching Christian sportsmanship and to use their God given talents to bring Him glory and honor.  His memory never failed him and he often talked about events and experiences with his players and RA’s.

He was an inspirationally strong wisdom-filled leader, a loving and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.  His soul has been reunited with the love of his life, Mary Rachel Lanham Casey. Dec. 22, they would have celebrated 70 years of friendship, love and marriage.  Their home was always filled with family and friends, delicious Casey’s garden-grown, home-cooked meals, good times and laughter. Casey was a loving father and extremely proud of his family.

He is survived by his three children, Janice Melton and husband, Virgil of Canton, Carolyn Hargrove and husband, Jim of Canton and Jesse Casey and wife, Melissa of Hallsville; eight grandchildren, Amy Melton, Casey Melton, Stephanie Melton, Chase Melton, Luke Casey, Carly Casey Emerson, Jacob Casey and Andrew Hargrove; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Moses; and sister-in-law, May Lanham as well as many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

His legacy of love and compassion for others, and his example of living life for Christ, will forever remain in our hearts.

Visitation was held Dec. 21 at Eubank Funeral Home, Canton.  A funeral service was held  today, Thursday, Dec. 22 at Eubank Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Roberson officiating.  Interment will follow the service at Haven of Memories.

“I am the resurrection and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die.” (Gospel of John 11:25-26)
