Junior post Yabdiel Crespo, shown making a shot against the Wills Point Tigers earlier this season, will be one of several underclassmen expected to return to the fold for an improving Canton Eagles team in 2017-’18.
The Canton Eagles entered their Valentine’s Day showdown against Mabank with plenty on the line, needing some combination of a win and Vandal loss, win and Vandal win or loss and Vandal loss to extend their season by at least one game.
A potential playoff game or play-in game against the Vandals was not to be, however, with Canton suffering a 64-53 road loss against the Panthers and Van defeating Wills Point 51-37 that same night.
Canton began district play on a high-note this season, defeating the Vandals 58-45 at home Jan. 13. The Eagles proceeded to gather themselves after back-to-back losses, evening their district record at 2-2 with a 56-41 win over Rains Jan. 24.
The Eagles recorded one more victory before the close of district play, hammering Rains 70-54 Feb. 10.
