Vestal, Arnold combine for 9-0 shutout
The Canton Eaglettes continued to get their legs under them during the early stages of the 2017 softball season, traveling to Gladewater Feb. 17 for a meeting against the Bears. Canton more than held its own in the contest, scoring multiple runs in four innings overall en route to a 9-0 shutout win.
Shelby Vestal picked up the win for Canton, needing just 108 pitches over six shutout innings. Vestal finished with 10 strikeouts, while allowing just three hits.
Brianna Arnold wrapped up the game on the mound, going the final inning with no baserunner allowed.
Canton got off to a solid start against the Bears, plating two runs in the top half of the first inning. One-out walks by both Reagan Busby and Brooke Arnold gave the Eaglettes their first serious threat of the game. Baylee Sanders made sure to capitalize on the opportunity, tripling in both Busby and Arnold for a 2-0 Canton advantage.
