A memorial service for Charles Raymond Erickson, 83, of Canton, will be held at 1 pm Friday, March 3, 2017 at Lakeside Baptist Church with Bro. Carlton Young officiating, under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home.

He passed away Feb. 25, 2017 in Tyler. He was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Phoenix, Ariz., to William H. and Florence Therese Wilson Erickson.

Erickson, known as "Chief" by many of his friends, lived in Phoenix and South Dakota before moving to Escondido, Calif.. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. As a devoted husband and father, he was a hard worker and provided for his family. Because he never met a stranger, he was a wonderful usher at the Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido, Calif. for many years. When they moved to Canton, he became a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. He was an avid Padre and Chargers fan.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William "Bill" and Albert Erickson and a daughter-in-law, Rachel Erickson.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia E. Erickson, of Canton; two sons, Daniel Raymond Erickson of Maryland and Andy Erickson of Athens; two daughters, Marylou Diane Roberts of Athens and Rebecca McManaway of Grand Saline; ten grandchildren, Karin Wright, Kimberlie Nadalski, Brigitta Walpole, Denise Erickson, Mattias Erickson, Wyatt Erickson, Morgan Erickson, Josie Erickson, Josie Erickson, Cara Erickson, and David McManaway; nine great-grandchildren, Myia, Landon, Nathan, Anika, Isabella, Carter, Karson, Jeremiah and Micah and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Erickson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Operation Christmas Child with Samaritan's Purse.
