John Adams scored the first run of the game for Canton against Van, reaching base via a sixth inning single before eventually scoring on a Johnnie Krawietz RBI single.
The Canton Eagles had a golden opportunity in front of them March 31, getting a chance to both tighten their grip on a potential playoff spot while also making the road a little bit rougher for chief rival Van.
The Eagles took care of business on both fronts, adding to Van’s recent offensive struggles behind a strong outing from Johnnie Krawietz in a 3-1 win over the Vandals.
Van entered play against Canton in a strange pattern, having dueled both Brownsboro and Wills Point down to the wire only to fall short in both games.
In those two games, the Vandals and their respective opponents struggled to push across a single run at the plate in any of the first three innings.
Brownsboro broke Van's heart by scoring a combined seven runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, while the Tigers plated all of their runs in the top of the seventh to hand the Vandals their second consecutive shutout loss.
The game against Canton followed a similar trend of late inning heartbreak for Van. The Eagles and Vandals traded zeroes on the scoreboard in each of the first five innings as Van’s Sean Beasley and Canton’s Johnnie Krawietz matched each other pitch for pitch.
