Helen R. Nelson

Funeral services for Helen R. Nelson, 89, of Haskell, formerly of Canton, were held Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Holly Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Nelson went to be with the Lord July 4, 2017, at her home.

She was born Nov. 1, 1927, in Frederick, Okla. to the late Grady Mann and Mittie Leona Nixon Mann.

She graduated high school from Carrolton High School. She married Joe Nelson, April 20, 1946, in Dallas. The Nelsons were involved in many business entities throughout their marriage, including Nelson Brothers, Nelson Concrete and WesTex Sand & Gravel.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton. She was very talented and enjoyed making handmade quilts. She was a long-time member of the Van Zandt County Extension Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Joe Nelson; daughter, Brenda Carrithers; one brother; and four sisters.

She is survived by daughters, Debbie Strickland and husband, David of Haskell; Donna Taylor of Canton; Patti Hopkins and husband, Guy of Lago Vista; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
