Services for Gwen Gillaspie Hunter, 87, of Canton, were held May 16, 2015, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton. Interment was in Haven of Memories in Canton.

She passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in Longview.

Gwen was born Dec. 18, 1927 to Sigmond and Donnie Mae Cruse Gillaspie in Gray's Prairie.

She attended school in Gray's Prairie and graduated from Mabank High School in 1943 at the age of 16. She and her sister Doris moved to Dallas where she was employed at Mutual of Omaha Insurance. Gwen married Vernon (Dick) Hunter on May 9, 1947, in Dallas and they spent the next 60 years together.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sigmond and Donnie Mae Gillaspie; husband, Vernon Hunter; and sister, Doris Johnson.

Gwen is survived by her daughter, Terry and James Hunter of Longview; grandchildren, Carrie and Mike Campanella of Shrevport, La., Hunter and Stacy Cox of Diana, Jason and Brittani Cox of Longview and Britani and James Britton of Longview; seven great-grandchildren, Hannah and Michael Campanella of Stonewall, La., Hannah and Remington Cox of Diana, Blake and Parker Cox of Longview, and Jocelynn Britton of Longview; and also several nieces and nephews.
