Annual gospel camp meeting coming to Canton

The 18th annual East Texas Baptist Camp meeting will be held at the Canton Civic Center July 13 through 17.

The music begins nightly at 7 p.m.  It is free and open to the public.

There will be preaching, special exhibits and a snack bar.

Guest speakers are Mark Thrift, pastor of Parkwood Baptist Church in Houston; Ronnie Barefield, pastor of Unity Baptist Church in Ripley, Miss.;  Andy Russell, pastor Martin Baptist Church in New Albany, Miss.; and Scott Matthews, evangelist from Blacksburg, S.C.

Singing nightly will be Rochesters from Blacksburg, S.C. For more than 50 years, this family has been traveling across America playing instruments and singing bluegrass gospel. The 13-member group ranges in age from 13 to 80.

The Erwins from Edgewood will be singing each night as well. Siblings Keith, Kody, Kristopher and sister Katie have recently signed with the Stowtown Record Label.

The Phillips Family from Gaffney, S.C. will be on stage July 13 through 16. Brothers Steve, Clint, Joel and their sister Tabitha are making their fifth appearance at the camp meeting.

July 16, the award winning Primitive Quartet will be performing.

“The people of Canton and East Texas have a very unique opportunity to hear this great group,” said Camp meeting founder, Evangelist Dennis Erwin. “They very seldom come to Texas. Whether you enjoy bluegrass gospel or not, you will enjoy hearing some of the best musicians and their soul-stirring songs that you will ever hear.”

The public is invited to each night of the camp meeting and there is no charge but a free-will/love offering will be received to cover the costs of the week-long event, Erwin said.

“Feel free to bring your comfortable chair and meet us at the civic center July 13 through 17,” Erwin said.
