Walking With Bob
Fuel for the belly
I am out of bed by 4 a.m. every day. There is no logical reason except I am punished for being 39 years old for the last 44th time. That is OK because being 39 is more fun than being 83.
This is how the day goes most of the time. Out of bed around 4 a.m., to the kitchen and putting together a protein milkshake with some fresh or frozen fruit, almond milk, ice, a dab of peanut butter, five taps of a cinnamon spice, and my favorite powder with 20 grams of protein. I read, study, plan, pray and snooze till daylight. On go my running socks, dress for the weather, on with the running shoes and out the door.
I walk briskly at more than three miles an hour for about 40 minutes to get that heart rate up. During the “brisk walk,” I mentally plan where I will go and what I will do this “first day of the rest of my life.”
Somewhere around 7:30 and 8 a.m., I am eating meal number two while scanning the news channels and headlines. Meal two is my favorite. Starting out with shredded wheat cereal, adding a hand full of almonds, pecans, and peanuts that have been baked at 350 degrees for 8 minutes and moistened with a cap full of olive oil. Then I add raisins, fresh or frozen fruit topped by almond milk. That is my WAFOWASL mix. It lasts about three weeks until I make the next batch. This is powerful stuff and in addition is loaded with fiber. It’s still before 9 a.m. and already I consumed well over 30 ounces of water, more protein, fiber, and carbs.
