This week in Canton history...

CANTON HERALD, Aug. 18, 1949 

Funeral services are held for Mrs. Frank Chaney at the Canton Baptist Church on Monday, August 15, 1949 with Rev. B. C. Dodd officiating.   She passed away Sunday Aug. 14, at her home in Dallas. Mrs. Katherine Chaney was born the daughter of the late Marion McWilliams and Mrs. Mary Ann Henderson.

She grew up in the Tundra community and married Frank Chaney on Oct. 13, 1898.  She is survived by two sons, M. M. Chaney of Plainview and T. R. Chaney of  Dallas and Mrs. W.P. Lackey of  Dallas.

All the children of Berry Mitchell were at home Sunday, Aug. 14, for the first time in twenty years. The only direct relatives not attending were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Funderburk of Houston. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Mitchell of Wichita Falls, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Mooseburg and son Berry of Center and their two married daughters, Mrs. C. F. Sanford of Center and Mrs. A. C.

The engagement of Miss Helen Parks to Ray Barnette Clark has been announced by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Parks of Canton.  Mr. Clark is the son of Mr. and Mrs.  H. A. Clark of Dallas.   Miss Park is a graduate of the local high school and of the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Dallas.  Mr. Clark is a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High school and will enter SMU in the fall.  The wedding date is to be announced later.
