Library to celebrate building

Looking back on achievements and mistakes is a valuable way to improve most situations.   Library Director, Susie Pulley, will revisit the beginnings of the Van Zandt County Library, the strides that have been made in some 60 years, and plans for the future at the regular Friends of the Library meeting, at 10 a.m. Monday Sept. 14.  The date also marks the 23rd anniversary of the dedication of the present building.

Friends of the Library dues are only $10 a year.  They are due now for the 2015-‘16 year.   Life memberships are still available.

Storytime for infants through pre-school children will resume at 10 a.m. Sept. 4.  The schedule through December is available at the library or on Facebook.

Volunteers for inside work at the library are faithful and efficient.  Gentlemen, have you noticed the dead bushes that are outside?   Could some of you arrange to get with the director and the City of Canton and remedy that?  Volunteering is not an exclusively female occupation.

A recent memorial gift was received by the Friends of the Library from Billy Jack and Pat Peace and the staff at Peace Pharmacy for the following, Charles Baker, Beth Whitaker, Jan Brooks and Joyce Marie Baker.  These gifts make possible many of the programs the library is able to offer, as well as some of the basic services that are provided.

The building is comfortable, the opportunities to learn and to serve are varied, and the addition of up to date technology to old fashioned paper pages makes for a place for everyone. Come see us.
