Running Eagles compete at Canton Invitational

Members of the varsity girls team, which includes Karen James, Juliana Bratcher, Hannah Manry, Lindsey Lamar, Taylor Marshall and Morgan Palmer race off the starting line at the Canton Invitational.
The Running Eagles hosted their annual Invitational Meet on September 19 at the First Monday Parking grounds on Highway 19. Teams representing 20 different schools, including all seven Van Zandt County schools, participated in the event.
The varsity boys team finished second overall. Matthew Hook finished 9th with a time of 18:20 followed by Cordale Harrison 11th in 18:39, Andrew Hamel 15th in 19:04, Jonathan Bourquin 23rd in 19:42, and Fernando Lopez 25th in 19:55.
Coach Marta Morgan stated, “These boys did an excellent job.”
The varsity girls finished third overall and were led by Karen James who finished 7th in a time of 13:04. Juliana Bratcher was 11th in 13:21, Hannah Manry 15th in 13:42, Lindsey Lamar 28th in 14:06, Taylor Marshall 33rd in 14:34, and Morgan Palmer 34th in 14:35. Morgan noted, “The girls did a great job on a tough course. Many of them turned in personal best times.”
The JV girls team was led by Kristin Neystel who finished 11th in 15:13, Kendall Bright 19th in 16:30, Nancy Lopez 16:52, Ally Wiley 17:41, and Maddie Welty 19:25. In the JV boys division, Christian Bourquin finished 10th in 20:54 and Garrett Willis 27:26. Morgan added, “Thank you so much to all of the parents, fans, and supporters who came out and helped with the meet. Also a big thanks to Henry Lewis for allowing us to use the parking area for our meet.”
The Running Eagles will be at Youth with a Mission in Van this Saturday. Races begin at 9:00 a.m.
