Manna School Food Drive begins Oct. 1

The 2015 Manna School Food Drive is about to begin.

Each school chooses when they would like to hold the food drive on their campus. The drive runs from Oct. 1 through Nov. 20.

Schools who have participated in past years included Canton ISD, Edgewood ISD, Fruitvale ISD, Grand Saline ISD, Martins Mill ISD, Wills Point ISD and Pecan Ridge Day Care.

Last year winners were: Canton Elementary School – first place with 2,922 pounds; Pecan Ridge Day Care – second place 2,191 pounds collected; and Martins Mill ISD – third with 1,648 pounds.

Manna officials said they offered congratulations congratulated to all the participating schools.  The schools all received plaques and the winners, of course, got bragging rights for the year, they said.

Manna officials also offered “a great big thank you” to all the volunteers who give both time and effort to this event.  “Without help, Manna is not able to have the food to help those who need it most,” they said. “The amount of food collected goes a long way in helping make this season a happier and healthier time of year for many in our area.”

Manna is open from 9 to 11:45 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Manna is closed on all federal holidays.

“Thanks in advance for a great school food drive and hope for even more schools in the area to join in the fun and the enjoyment of knowing that through your help you can make a difference right here in Van Zandt County,” a Manna spokesperson said.

The Manna Food Bank is located at 17897 FM 1255 in Canton.
