Witnesses, information sought about recent fires
The Van Zandt County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating several fires that have occurred over the past several days, Fire Marshal Chuck Allen said.
Rolling Oaks
Oct. 17, the Fire Marshal’s Office responded to Rolling Oaks on a reported structure fire. “It was reported that three structures were on fire with others being threatened,” Allen said. “It was determined that an abandoned mobile home was on fire. The cause of the fire is suspicious in nature.”
Anyone with information regarding the Rolling Oaks fire is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 903-567-STOP or Deputy Fire Marshal Danny Wilson at 903-567-7486.
The Mountain, Canton
At the same time as the Rolling Oaks fire was being reported, the Fire Marshal’s Office was also dispatched to The Mountain in Canton.
“Upon arrival, multiple fire departments were on scene with other departments being dispatched,” Allen said. “The fire has actually damaged, according to owners, approximately 60 structures. This accounts for approximately 5 acres of property on The Mountain. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental.”
The Fire Marshal’s Office, Canton Fire Department and Canton Police Department are continuing to interview subjects with information about the early stages of the fire, Allen said.
“At this time, it does not appear to an incendiary or suspicious fire but anyone with any information about The Mountain fire is urged to contact the Fire Marshal’s Office.”
Van
Oct. 19, the Fire Marshal’s Office was dispatched to an abandoned vehicle fire on an oil lease road behind the Van Football Field.
The vehicle was later identified by investigators with the East Texas Auto Task Force as a 2003 Dodge pickup.
“The vehicle appeared to have been abandoned and was found on fire by a well checker,” Allen said.
Anyone with information in regards to who was last seen in this vehicle is urged to contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at 903-567-7486 or CrimeStoppers at 903-567-STOP.
