Oct. 9 11:24 p.m. – Arrest: Warrants – Driving while license suspended and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility – Courtney Shae Sumrall, 24, Canton
Oct. 13 9:45 a.m., 1300 block Hwy. 19 – a 2005 white Chrysler crashed into The Hair Salon. The car was being driven by Virginia Taylor Thomas, 76, Canton. She was pulling into the handicapped parking space and didn’t hit the brakes. Thomas was taken by ambulance to East Texas Medical Center in Athens.
Oct. 13 11:48 a.m., 600 block of East Hwy. 243 – Arrest: Theft >$100<$750 – Monica R. Roberts, 46, Canton
Oct. 15 8:45 a.m. –Canton Police Sgt. Steve Hall assisted VZ Pct. 1 Constable Mickey Henson, VZ Pct. 4 Constable Pat Jordan and U.S. Marshals in serving a felony murder and kidnapping warrant on a location in Grand Saline. Captured was Michael Todd Ramsey, 50, of Kemp, wanted in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a Lubbock woman, 30-year-old Maegan Menbree, last seen in February 2013.
Ramsey was found staying in a travel trailer on property on FM 17.
Also arrested were Danny Neighbors, 52, of Grand Saline on charged of harboring a fugitive and possession of less than one gram of controlled substance and Kathryn Smith, 47, of Emory, on charges of harboring a fugitive and outstanding warrants from Alba.
Upon book-in at the Van Zandt County Jail, it was discovered that Neighbors had 3 grams of methamphetamine concealed in his underwear.
Oct. 16 4:12 p.m., Hwy. 243 @ Hwy. 64 – Arrest: DWI – Mary C. Dupree, 57, Ben Wheeler
Oct. 17 6:15 p.m., 400 block of Big Rock – Burglary of a building
Oct. 18 7:53 p.m., Hwy. 19 at I-20 – Traffic accident
Oct. 19 1:47 a.m., 600 block East Hwy. 243 – Burglary of a building. Two perpetrators wearing hoodies threw a landscape stone through the building’s plate glass window and stole cigarettes.
