James qualifies for State Meet

Fresh off their first place finishes at the District Cross Country Meet Oct. 19, the Canton cross country boys and girls teams competed at the Regional Meet in Grand Prairie Oct. 26. Running Eagle team member Karen James qualified at the State Cross Country Meet in Round Rock with a 13th place finish.

The Canton Running Eagles competed at the Regional Cross Country Meet in Grand Prairie Oct. 26.

Karen James qualified for the state competition by finishing 13th overall in a time of 12:40. Coach Marta Morgan stated, "We are all so proud of Karen.  She set a goal to make it to state and achieved that goal." 

The girls team finished 8th overall out of 22 teams and 166 runners. Juliana Bratcher was 36th in 13:16, Hannah Manry 42nd in 13:28, Taylor Marshall 76th in 14:14, Lindsey Lamar 79th in 14:17, Morgan Palmer in 14:28 and Olivia Boyd 15:19. 

The boys team finished 11th overall out of 22 teams and 167 runners.  Matthew Hook led the way with a finish of 17:56 and 44th place. Cordale Harrison 18:10, Juan Ruiz 18:31, Christian Bourquin 18:45, Andrew Hamel 18:52, Jonathan Bourquin 18:53 and Fernando Lopez 20:33. 

"I'm so extremely proud of all these young athletes," said Morgan. "They have worked so hard this season." 

James will compete at the State Meet in Round Rock Nov. 7 at Old Settlers Park
