CHS academics earns sweepstakes at Whitehouse Thanksgiving Classic

The Canton High School Academic UIL Team had great success at the Whitehouse Invitational Meet in mid-November.
The students competed in the small school division against 20 1A to 4A schools and brought home the first place sweepstakes award.
“This was the first full academic meet of the year and the Academic Eagles are starting off strong!” UIL Coach Susie Dorman said. “Special recognition to the students who competed for the first time in any UIL event and placed!”
Individuals and teams achievements included:
Spelling – coached by Brittani Engebretson; first – Graysen Reid; second – Samantha Oakley; third – Ashley McDonald; sixth – Ally Wiley; first place team – Reid, Oakley, McDonald, Wiley
Literary Criticism – coached by Susie Dorman; first – Emily Nicks; second – Maddie Lynch; third – Rainy Dare; first place team—Nicks, Lynch, Dare, Justine Lewis
Accounting – coached by M. Debenport; third – Juliana Bratcher; fifth - Chloe Chesney; sixth – Juan Ruiz; eighth - Morgan Palmer’ second place team—Bratcher, Chesney, Ruiz, Palmer
Current Events – coached by Anna Coppedge; fifth - Caleb Crumpler; seventh – Jeremy Dickerson; second place team — Crumpler, Dickerson, Kaylie Nilius, Darcie Robertson
Editorial Writing – coached by Dorman; first – Danica Irving; second –John Macoy
