Upgrades, changes impact library
The Van Zandt County Library will be operating on a limited basis for the month of March.
A mini library with some computers, the copy machine and a limited book selection will be open in the Buchanan Room due to the 23-year-old carpeting being replaced.
New laminate flooring will be installed by the City of Canton in the main portion of the library. Van Zandt County has promised help in moving, storing, and replacing the collection.
The county maintains the operating budget for the library, and the City of Canton owns and maintains the building and grounds.
In a unique arrangement with Van Zandt County, The City of Canton and the Friends of the Library, City and Friends pooled funds and the building became a reality. Residents anywhere in Van Zandt County may be issued library privileges with no fees for usage.
An important arm of the library is the Library of Genealogy and Local History, located in the Courthouse Annex at Highway 19 and Groves Street.
At that location, someone will assist in tracing family roots and fascinating tales about ancestry. That facility will not be impacted by the floor work.
Storytime on Fridays will have a special schedule in March.
The Friends of the Library will not have a formal meeting, but plan to paint the interior during the closure. Watch Facebook, or ask at the library if other meetings will be different.
The City of Canton is also re-working the flower bed in front of the porch. The azaleas have died.
The staff is excited about the upgrades at the library, and they hope you are too.
