Canton FFA participates in many facets of the Houston Livestock Show

From March 5 to 20, 22 members of the Canton FFA Chapter combined to make five trips to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to compete in the Floriculture CDE, Horticulture Project Show, Junior Breeding Beef Heifer Show, Livestock Judging Contest and Ag Mechanics Shows.

The first trip was made by the Floriculture Team consisting of Devin Hilsabeck, Ashley Veillon, Chassidy Waymire and Kendall Bright.

In this contest, students competed by placing classes of flowers and arrangements, as well as completing an exam and identifying plants and flowers common to the floral industry.  This was the first contest for this group, and they placed near the top of a highly competitive field.

Devin was the top scorer for the team, receiving perfect scores on two of the placing classes.

Students with horticulture projects were next to travel to the HLSR.  Evelyn Mc Donald and Kendall Bright represented the Canton FFA Chapter in this contest.

Evelyn created an herb garden, arranged in an acoustic guitar, while Kendall crafted a succulent garden in a shabby chic-style chair adorned with hanging mason jars.

The beef heifer show team made the next trip.

On this trip, seven of the 10 students competing placed in the top five in their class.
