Hunter Moore pitched five innings while allowing just three runs in Canton’s 10-3 win over Van. Moore also excelled at the plate, going 2/5 with 3 RBI and a run scored.
Mother Nature delivered an untimely day of rain showers throughout portions of East Texas, forcing the rescheduling of several games involving Van Zandt County teams. Due to the conditions, the Canton Eagles and Van Vandals were forced to wait 24 hours before their scheduled meeting, taking the field April 2 for a rare Saturday night contest.
Canton took advantage of every opportunity against the Vandals, capitalizing on three Van errors and other miscues to pull out a 10-3 win.
After two quiet innings, the Eagle offense came to life for the first time during the game in the top of the third inning.
After a walk and a single put two runners on, Hunter Moore brought home the first Canton run of the night with a sharp single to leftfield. The Eagles loaded the bases after a Van hit by pitch, and Cade Shaw followed suit by reaching via a walk to extend the lead to 2-0. Canton scored one more run in the inning, with a Simon Miller single to left brining home Kyle Farrell.
The Eaglettes turned their 3-0 lead into a 7-0 advantage in the top of the fourth, plating four more runs to seize control of the game.
Blayne Clower got Canton on the base paths by being hit by a pitch. After an out, Kyle Farrell reached base on a Vandal fielding error to put runners on second and third. Canton eventually loaded the bases on another walk, and Cade Shaw continued his fantastic night by doubling to right to clear the bases.
Shaw came home to score just three pitches later, making his way home on a Simon Miller RBI single.
Van got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning as Casey Morrow brought home Bret Hale on a hard hit ground ball to second to cut the deficit to 7-1.
