Joe Lynn Stricklin

1945-2016

Joe Lynn Stricklin, 72, of Canton went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus, April 13, 2016, at the VA Hospital in Dallas, after a battle with cancer.

He was born on March 21, 1945, the only son of Jodie and Maude (Paris) Stricklin, of Martins Mill.

Mr. Stricklin served his country honorably as an infantryman in Vietnam and received several medals for his service, including the Army Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart.

After his time in the service, he worked as a manager at GNC for several years, then at a dialysis facility in Tyler and eventually left his work to take care of his widowed father until his passing.

He was a caring man who loved to help people.  He dedicated himself to many worthy causes and charitable organizations, served on the school board at Martins Mill for several years, helped countless friends and family members in need and was an ardent supporter of the Humane Society.

He was grateful to be at home for most of his illness due to the compassionate and sacrificial care of several family members and friends, including Brenda Jones, Doug and Sally Beicht and Frank Escobedo.  He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his first cousin Linda Green and several other cousins.

A funeral service was held at Hilliard Funeral Home, April 18.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Stricklin’s name to the Humane Society.
