Boy Scout #278 were the guests of the VZC Veterans Memorial and the NSDAR.
May12, the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial and the local Neches River Chapter of the NSDAR hosted Boy Scout Troop #378 to demonstrate how a worn, used flag is prepared for retirement.
The DAR began with a prayer and Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Assistant Scoutmaster Kevin Bradway and Scouts Jeremiah Bradway and Dalton Marrow began the ceremony.
Dalton had just been advanced to a Boy Scout May 6.
They showed how each colored stripe and the blue field containing the stars are cut a part separately, rolled and stored until the time for the final step of the ritual ceremony is completed with the flag being burned.
The symbolism of the colors was also explained.
