Canton Masons award scholarships
Aug. 8, Canton High School graduates Emily Nicks, Mason Baugh and Riley Killingsworth were each awarded at $1,000 scholarship by the Masons of Castillian Lodge No. 141.
After dinner, Master of the Lodge Mac Walling and Secretary Michael King presented the awards in a brief ceremony.
These worthy students were chosen by the lodge on the basis of their high school achievements, demonstrated academic abilities, extracurricular activities and moral character. The scholarships will help these students pursue their life goals, lodge officials said.
Emily was valedictorian of Canton High School and graduated with a 4.0 grade point average. Active in the Mighty Eagle Band, she was drum major and All-state Band in trumpet. She was in the State UIL Academics and a national speech and debate qualifier. She will major in public Relations and minor in theatre at Harding University in Searcy, Ark.
Mason played football and basketball for Canton High School and graduated with a 3.4 gpa. A member of Old Bethal Baptist youth group, he was an Interact Club member for two years and made first team offensive tackle and second team defensive tackle. He will attend McPherson College on a football scholarship and plans to major in business. McPherson University is located in McPherson, Ks.
