Canton Herald – Sept.15, 1960: 

Mr. and Mrs. W. Young Tucker will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from two 5 o’clock Sunday evening at their home in the Pleasant Glade Community, where they had lived since their marriage. They were married Sept. 17, 1910, in Van Zandt County. Both Mr. and Ms. Tucker were born in this County. Mr. Tucker has been a farmer for more than 50 years they have three sons, William Clarence Tucker Canton, Alton Hoyt Tucker of Dallas and Eli Tucker of Irving; and four daughters, Mrs. Homer Flowers, Mrs. Charles Had and Mrs. Randall Autry of Dallas and Mrs. Lloyd Weatherford of Athens. They also have 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The City Council of Canton passed an ordinance Tuesday night at a meeting aimed at keeping stray dogs off the streets of Canton. Regulates the keeping of dogs in the city and provides for compulsory vaccination and license. It also sets up a city dog pound in redemption and disposal of dogs in the pound. Quote a fee not to exceed two dollars shall be paid by the owner of the dog to the veterinarian for each time each dog is vaccinated, the ordinance says. It also calls for a city license tag which shall be affixed to the collar of the dog. Quote for this service there will not be any charge.   According to the published ordinance, which appears on page 7 of this issue of the Herald the Council will appoint some person to enforce it. The County Sheriff’s Department stated that they will help enforce it, also. A council spokesman said. When dogs are impounded by the city, they will remain there for five days unless redeemed or claimed by owners. Dogs not claimed will be advertised for sale, and if not so will be destroyed.
