Van Zandt County 4-H Members bring home gold, silver, other honors

Van Zandt County 4-H members may not be participating in this year’s Olympics in Rio but they certainly did bring home the gold.

Members and volunteer leaders were recently recognized for their achievements for the 2015-2016 4-H year.

The evening began with a catered meal and power point that reflected upon all the 4-H members in the county and their many adventures with their projects and achievements.

The recognition ceremony began by recognizing the scholarship winners who earned local Van Zandt County 4-H Scholarships.

Thanks to the Van Zandt Extension Education Association an additional scholarship in the amount of $500 was added this year. This year’s honors went to seniors Colton Caughron and Sabrina Swinford.

Colton, of Wills Point, is a home-schooled senior and was an active member of shooting sports. Colton received the VZ 4-H Scholarship $1,000 and the Bobbi Rogers Scholarship $750 earning a total of $1,750 in scholarships.

Sabrina, of Canton and a senior at Van High School, served as our 2015-2016 County Council president, the Project Club president and showed her goat at the Van Zandt County Fair where she earned the honors of 2016 Grand Champion goat. Sabrinareceived the Mitch Brown Scholarship $500, VZ 4-H Scholarship $750 and the VZEEA $500 for a total of $1,750 in scholarships.
