Genealogy Society seeks veterans help
Many books, movies and stories have been told about the struggle our nation has gone through to provide and protect our freedoms and that of other countries. Now, it is your turn.
The Van Zandt County Genealogy and Local History Library is looking for veterans’ stories. from World Wars I and II Vietnam, Cuban Crisis, Haiti, Desert Storm, Iraq, etc.
Maybe you did not serve in a time of crisis but still you have a story and we would like to include it in our records. Maybe you never left the United States or maybe you were on the front lines. You have a story and we would like to place that story in our library for future generations to be able to learn what part you played and what you endured for our freedoms,” Jones said.
Included within the story should be the writers full name, description of connection to VZC, branch of service, rank, when and where you were stationed, deployed and when you returned home. Maybe you did not live here before you served but are living in Van Zandt County now, we want your story. This written story can be as short or long or as detailed as you are comfortable in recalling. It is your story.
We will need an address, phone number and e-mail. These will not be released unless you give written permission to do so. We just need it to contact you if we have any questions.
Veterans are the most important part of the stories of the residents of Van Zandt County and our nation.
Stories can be dropped off at the Library at the Courthouse Annex in Canton or mailed to Van Zandt County Genealogy and Local History Library, P.O. Box 1388, Canton TX 75103 or e-mail subject line Vet. Stories can be sent to vanzandtgensoc@etcable.net.
Thank you for your service.
