This week in Canton History...

Canton Herald – November 3, 1960:  An attractive Van Zandt County girl will represent 13 counties in the state finals of the 1960 Farm Bureau Queens Contest November 10 in Dallas.

The Tenna Wilson daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester W. Wilson of Wills Point. Miss Wilson was selected District 5 Bureau Queen in a contest held September 2 at Mount Pleasant.

 At the state contest, which will be held in conjunction with the 27th annual convention of the Texas Farm Bureau, Miss Wilson will compete with 12 other district winners for the state title. The winner will receive $500 to cover expenses for her and 1 matron escort attending the American Farm Bureau Federation convention in December in Denver, Colorado. In addition, all district queens will receive an expense paid trip to the state convention and will be presented beautiful wrist watches.

A senior in high school, Miss Wilson is an active member of the Student Council. She plays drums in the high school orchestra, and is a majorette for the marching band. She was recently selected by the Chamber of Commerce to represent her hometown at the State Fair in Dallas and appear in the Cotton Bowl on October 18.

Funeral services for Charlie O. Everett, 66 who died in a Tyler hospital Monday, were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Little Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ed Barnett and the Rev. Albert Dusek officiating.  Interment was in Morris Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Eubank funeral.
