Runners compete at State Cross Country Meet
Canton, Edgewood, Grand Saline and Martins Mill sent a combined 11 runners to Round Rock over the weekend to compete against some of the best distance runners in the state at the annual State Cross Country Meet.
The Running Eagles sent the largest contingent among all local teams, qualifying the girls team of Karen James, Juliana Bratcher, Taylor Marshall, Darby Pruitt, Claire Boyd, Kristin Neystel and Morgan Palmer, as well as Cordale Harrison in the 4A boys division.
The girls team placed 15th overall with a team total of 310 points. Bandera led all teams with 93 points, followed by Kaufman in second with 135 points and Alvarado in third with 156 points.
Individual finishers for the Eaglettes included Karen James in 12th with a time of 12:03.90, Juliana Bratcher in 43rd place with a time of 12:42.92, Taylor Marshall in 48th with a time of 12:50.11, Kristin Neystel in 103rd with a time of 14:06.55, Morgan Palmer in 104th with a time of 14:09.99, Claire Boyd in 105th with a time of 14:13.67, and Darby Pruitt in 110th with a time of 14:20.99.
Running in the 4A varsity boys race, Cordale Harrison posted a time of 17:12.51 to finish 73rd overall out of 151 runners in the field.
