Code enforcement, permits on the rise

City Hall moves to new location

Code enforcements and permits was the name of the game during the Canton City Council meeting Nov. 15.

The council heard updates from City Manager Lonny Cluck and Canton Fire Chief Bud Sanford in regards to permits and compliance issues on The Mountain.

Cluck said that at least a dozen permits had been issued in the last couple of weeks by business owners on the Mountain.

“They are trying to move forward in a positive direction, but we are still going to look at these permits on an individual basis,” said Cluck.

Chief Sanford said that specific guidelines had been laid out for bed and breakfasts on The Mountain. “Captain Brian Horton is the only one that carries out inspections on The Mountain due to the nature of what we have been through up there. Captain Horton reports that everything is going well up there and we are getting a level of compliance that is acceptable. He is usually up there daily. We have no complaints about the direction The Mountain is headed.”
