Wednesday Study Club remembers assisination

Kathryn Strickland

The Wednesday Study Club held its monthly meeting Nov. 16 at the American National Bank in Canton. After a brief business meeting, Vice President Lisa Goode introduced Kathryn Strickland, who presented an interesting and informative program commemorating Nov. 22, 1963, the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

Strickland was a student nurse at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. She was an eyewitness to many of the sad events of the day the fatally wounded President was rushed to Parkland. She and other student nurses watched in stunned disbelief from their residence hall across from Parkland’s emergency room. She recounted how the bustle and noise of the busy hospital became hushed and felt unreal as the realization of President Kennedy’s death unfolded. “Her personal reliving of this bleak moment in our country’s history brought back memories of where each person was when they heard that the President had been shot,” study club members said.
